Hafidha Dr. Amatullah Saafir is a distinguished Hafidha of the Quran (one who has memorized the entire Quran). Her lifelong journey with the Quran began in an Islamic school during her early childhood, where she first developed a profound connection to its sacred words. As a young teen, she pursued formal instruction in Tajwid locallyβa formative experience that paved the way for her complete memorization of the Quran in Senegal, West Africa, at the age of 16. She later returned to Senegal to earn an Ijaza in the revered Warsh recitation, demonstrating her commitment to deepening her mastery.
Dr. Amatullah is also a co-founder and instructor of the Hafsa Society, an organization dedicated to inspiring and facilitating the written study, recitation, and memorization of the Holy Quran for all women, with a focus on Black Muslim women. This role complements her dedication to preserving and promoting the timeless science of Tajwid, ensuring it remains accessible to all. In addition to her leadership and scholarly endeavors, she continues to excel as a practicing anaesthesiologist based in New Jersey. Alongside these professional achievements, she embraces her roles as a devoted wife, a nurturing mother of four, and a lifelong student of Islamic knowledge.
