3 Ways to Get Motivated Right Now

motivation Jan 19, 2022

Motivation can be a hard thing to come by, especially in the times we live in. Whether it's at the beginning of a challenging New Year, or right in the middle of it, there are always things we can do to get in the right mindset. The following is a list of 3 easy and enjoyable steps you can take right now to get motivated.

  1.  Schedule Inspiration

Sounds counter-intuitive, but it works! We don't think about this often, but we can actively search for inspiration. What that means for you, is putting yourself in environments that stir something in your soul. Maybe it's walking in nature or a small quaint town. Or maybe it's reading memoirs of people you admire, visiting new places, taking in a movie, or volunteering. Whatever it is for you, write it down in your planner, anticipate the event, go into the activity with an open mind, and relish in what speaks to your soul!

2.Movement = Forward Motion

So many of us underestimate how much inactivity and sedentary living impacts our well-being. Given we are STILL in a pandemic and many places are going back into shutdown, much more of our lives are happening from our coach or kitchen table. We no longer have the option of parking far away from the building to get extra steps or taking the stairs in the office building to our afternoon meeting.   It’s far too easy to find ourselves in slumps with a low drive and little to no motivation. Truthfully, there is no better way to get out of our funk than to get moving, and it doesn't have to be complicated. Step out of your house and go for a walk while you take in the sunset. Have a little solo dance party if that's what gets you going. Rediscover a physical activity you loved as a child. Challenge yourself to finally do those activities you’ve always wanted to try, but never had the time. Our bodies were meant to lead us to do great things in this world. Be willing to explore what type of movement and expression your body is seeking, and you’ll soon be inspired by seeing what your body is capable of.

  1.  Read to Get Inspired!

Reading is a foundational concept not just in Islam, but for anybody seeking to learn, grow and improve. When was the last time you picked up a book and sought inspiration?  Books are filled with inspiration, practical knowledge and great examples of everyday people like you and me overcoming their adversities and accomplishing meaningful things. Try to make reading a part of your morning or evening routine to make sure you are always intentionally nourishing your mind with content that makes you better. Even if you think you don’t have time to sit down and read a book, download an audio book and make it a habit to play it while you are getting dressed in the morning or doing your nightly face cleansing routine.

As great as feeling motivated is, the truth of the matter is, it's not so much about finding motivation than it is about being disciplined. That’s what’ll keep you taking the right actions to achieve your goals. In the meantime, these 3 steps are great ideas to incorporate into your daily routine that’ll create that forward momentum you need to get going this year.

I hope this post makes you feel empowered and motivated to take these simple and enjoyable actions that’ll pay dividends in your life.
