From the Founder
An institute for the practitioner I wish I'd had.
Why this institute had to exist.
In the beginning, this was personal. I watched my own mother suffer under unmanaged diabetes, surrounded by advice that never once named the real cause. Insulin resistance was the thing underneath it all, and no one, not the guidance she was given nor the people trying to help her, knew to work at the root. What I saw instead was misinformation, repeated with confidence and doing real harm.
That gap became my life's work. Women everywhere are handed the same diets that have already failed them, and medications that manage symptoms while insulin resistance goes untouched. And the coaches trying to help them have never been taught to see the root, or to honor the body as the amanah it is.
For years the industry has told these women to eat less and try harder, as if willpower were the missing piece. I refused to accept that. I had watched where that road leads, and I had felt its early warning in my own body, and I had found a better way. So I built the institute I wish had existed for my mother, and for me.
This is more than a certification. It is a promise to the women who have been failed by misinformation, and to the practitioners who want to do right by them, that we will always choose the root over the quick fix, and truth over the convenient narrative. I built this for you.
Mubarakah Ibrahim
FOUNDER, FIT MUSLIMAH INSTITUTE OF METABOLIC HEALTH
The Bio
Mubarakah Ibrahim is the founder of the Fit Muslimah Institute of Metabolic Health and the creator of the Insulin-Centered Method, the framework at the heart of its certification. For more than two decades she has worked at the meeting point of metabolic science, women's health, and faith, and she built the Institute to train a new generation of specialists to do the same.
Her foundation is both academic and lived. She holds an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, Public Health, and Psychology from Southern Connecticut State University and has earned more than thirteen certifications in fitness and nutrition, with specializations in women-specific training, pre and postnatal care, and breath work. She first reached a national audience on Oprah Winfrey's Thirty-Something in America in 2008 as a hijab-wearing personal trainer and business owner, and her leadership in the American Muslim community brought invitations to President Barack Obama's White House Iftar dinners in 2012 and 2013. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, and Prevention.
Mubarakah does not only teach strength, she competes in it. In 2023 she won Masters Gold at the USPA National championship, set multiple Connecticut state records, and was selected as one of six athletes to represent the United States at the International Powerlifting League Meet.
As founder and CEO of Fit Muslimah, she leads a community of more than half a million women and created the Fit Muslimah Summit, the only international health and fitness conference for Muslim women, hosted across the United States, Bermuda, and Saudi Arabia.
A lifelong student of Islamic knowledge, she completed two years of Hadith coursework at the Islamic Open University and is currently enrolled in the Jennah Institute's Year of Knowledge, studying Tazkiyah, Aqeedah, Fiqh, Quran, and Hadith. She is the second of four consecutive generations of American-born Muslims, descended from pioneers of the Dar-ul-Islam movement in New York. It is this rare combination, the scientist, the athlete, and the student of faith, that shapes how she teaches: the body is an amanah, and the science of caring for it is worth mastering.
Mubarakah is a wife, a mother of four, and a grandmother of five, building a legacy of health and faith for the generations behind her.
