Break Free from Sugar Addiction’s Invisible Prison

Has sugar addiction become your invisible prison? That afternoon crash that hijacks your energy just when you need it for ʿAṣr. The brain fog that makes focusing on the Qur’ān feel impossible. The war between the sugar you crave and the vitality your body—and soul—truly deserve. It’s not your fault. But it is your responsibility.

The Hard Truth About Sugar Addiction

Sugar isn’t just a harmless treat—it hijacks your brain’s reward system like addictive drugs, triggering dopamine spikes that keep you coming back for more. When insulin resistance takes hold, your body’s divine design for strength, clarity, and sustained energy gets derailed—leaving you:

  • Too exhausted for quality time with your family

  • Too foggy‑headed to concentrate in prayer

  • Too bloated and uncomfortable in your own skin

  • Too trapped in cravings to live with intention

Why This Matters

Science proves that breaking sugar addiction restores hormonal balance, reduces inflammation, and sharpens mental focus. Islam teaches that self‑discipline is an act of worship—building the spiritual resilience to honor both your health and your ibādah. This 5‑Day Sugar Rehab Challenge is your call to reclaim your body, mind, and spirit—and step into the strength Allah ﷻ designed you for.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
After 5 days I realized we can do anything we set our mind to as long as the intention is soulful (in this case taking utmost care of the body as an amanah handed down to us). Weight loss, while being a great goal, is not that deep—at least to me, who hasn't managed to stick to a lifestyle change with solely that specific goal in mind.
With that said, may Allah purify all our intentions and make it easy for us. And may He reward Sis Mubarakah and her team for the work they do.

Salwa, [May 17, 2025 at 12:52:00 AM]:
After 5 days I've discovered that I'm pretty good when it comes to making good choices, Alhamdulillah, that my added sugar intake is minimal, and that it's not too difficult to say no!

Umm Razia, [May 16, 2025 at 8:31:11 PM (May 16, 2025 at 9:35:25 PM)]:
As-Salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu 🌹
In these five days I have discovered the importance of being intentional and planning, the importance of sisterhood and accountability, the importance of reading labels and being conscientious. I know that the ability to be successful is with the permission of Allah and that the more I make du’a for others, the more He answers my du’as for myself. This has been a wonderful experience, alhamdulillah. I'm looking forward to the call tomorrow and continuing this journey, insha’Allah 🤗

Lucinda Webb, [May 16, 2025 at 8:52:20 PM]:
Assalamualaikum. I'm missing the check-ins, I am not big on taking pictures but I'm sure glad you guys are. Your meals look amazing. I have arthritis all throughout my body. I am noticing a big improvement, Allahu Akbar. From your pictures and the conversations and the recordings I was able to put together a menu—can't wait to go grocery shopping this weekend!

Farah, [May 16, 2025 at 6:48:57 PM]:
Day 5 is almost done... Jazak’Allah khayr to Sister Mubarakah, Sisters Alexis and Margaret (apologies if I got it wrong). I have realized that I in fact don't need sugar to stay awake. I would always grab for some sugary snack to keep me going. Alhamdulillah today was a true test for me as I slept a little less and had to drive out of town. Normally I am dozing off around 2–4 pm, but alhamdulillah it didn't happen today and didn’t happen all week. I feel clearer and like I have more life. Along with this, I have been more conscious of what I am eating and incorporating more movement. Still need to work on water intake... but insha’Allah that is my next goal.
Jazak’Allah khayr to all the ladies for the huge support. We did it!!!! 🥳🥳
I intend to be more careful with consuming so many sugary items, especially pop!!!
Jazak’Allah khayr.

Nasreen, [May 16, 2025 at 6:56:57 PM]:
After 5 days I've discovered that I'm stronger than I thought I was. I have stuck out this challenge. I've made good alternative choices to sugar.
Today was a challenging day!
We had to go out to visit my cousin who lives in another town. First, I made flapjacks for her but I didn’t even have a tiny taste at all. الحمد لله Next, I usually have chewing gum in the car because of feeling queasy. It helps. Today I thought, what do I do? So I took cardamoms with me instead. That was good. We got to my cousin’s house, she made tea and served the flapjacks. I said no. She said, “No, you must have some.” So I asked her daughter if they had any savoury biscuits. She got me something savoury with no added sugar. Another hurdle passed. Then I was helping her make something that we put raw cane sugar and raisins in. Everything else was just nuts and seeds. I explained about this challenge to her. But she said, “Just taste some please to check if it tastes okay and if it’s sweet enough.” I felt really bad for saying no, I think you should taste it because you will be eating it so it has to be for your liking. She asked me many times. I did feel bad but I stuck to my guns الحمد لله رب العالمين.
Dinner was good, no sugar in anything and no drinks except water. Evening tea this time was served on its own so that was good. Got through the day الحمد لله رب العالمين. We just got back a little while ago.
Only thing is that I didn't manage to drink much water and I can feel it!!!
Thank you my lovely coach @iamfitmuslimah for organizing this challenge. It’s an eye-opener that’s for sure!!! My cousin said she will join if there is another one!

Farah Nikhat, [May 16, 2025 at 6:15:41 PM]:
Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.
I started a day later, so in these 4 days I realized that if we can set our minds on limiting ourselves to healthy food options we can do it, alhamdulillah.
It's all about being aware and full of gratitude towards Allah for all the good that the Almighty has bestowed upon us.  Thanks a lot and Jazak’Allah khayran katheeran to the coach and her team for this initiative and making us realize we can still be happy and healthier if we make the right food choices.
Sugar is not everything in our diet. We can live a more healthy life without sugar.

Zubeida Khan, [May 16, 2025 at 4:51:56 PM]:
As-salaam, I have discovered that I am capable of eating smaller portions and being satisfied for longer periods due to informed choices, Alhamdulillah, and that protein is key, subhanAllah.

INAAYA
As-salaamu alaikum my beloved sisters in Islam!
First, jazakum Allah khayr Coach Mubarakah and her team for being here for us. I have discovered that I am capable of doing things I set my mind to—one step at a time. I hope I will keep the amanah that Allah gave me in a healthy way.
Sisters, may Allah make it easy on us, may Allah heal us from whatever illnesses we have, and give us strength 💪 to do a lot of ‘ibadah, insha’Allah!

SYLVIA
Alhamdulillah I did not experience my afternoon crash today y'all! At work, working with impulsive sweet children, I expect to crash with or without sugar 😩. But on Friday when off work I get so frustrated with my P.M. crash because Friday is so special and I am usually sooo sleepy. BUT NOT TODAY!

Habibah, [May 16, 2025 at 11:40:43 AM]:
Day 5: This experience felt like I was fasting the whole time. I had serious cravings on days 2 and 4, but stuck with it. I’m happy it was just a sugar detox and not a whole diet change which made it more manageable. I realized that I ate way too many sweets so I’m looking forward to trying to maintain it to the best of my ability, insha’Allah 🤲🏽

Uzma, [May 16, 2025 at 11:58:37 AM]:
AoA sisters,
I am from the UK. Almost completing day 5! Feeling amazing. Without intending, I have lost a few pounds and am so happy to shift that extra stubborn weight!
I am 52, my question: what weight-bearing exercises should I be doing and for how long?
Thank you 💕

Amenah, [May 16, 2025 at 10:59:55 AM]:
After five days I've discovered I don't need sugar in my life. I am stronger than the sugar Shaytaan. I can enjoy my chai without monkfruit even الحمد لله.
SubhanAllah, even my husband wants to continue with no sugar الحمد لله. Allah grant us istiqamah.
@iamfitmuslimah Allah reward you and your team in abundance for helping so many of us women gain control over our health.

Mona, [May 16, 2025 at 11:03:08 AM (May 16, 2025 at 11:03:32 AM)]:
After 5 days I discovered I have the willpower to not grab sugar at every turn, that sugar isn't what was keeping me alert (since I don't drink coffee or tea), it was the cause of a lot of my fatigue.
Looking forward to new beginnings.

Sadiya Hassan, [May 16, 2025 at 11:13:45 AM]:
After 5 days I discovered that sugar has always been my enemy. Alhamdulillah I have become lighter and more energetic. Shukran jazilan. Jazak Allah khayr.
